Mature Times Article

I was asked by Mature Times to write an article about keeping fit to play tennis and was happy to oblige. This online magazine is extremely interesting and the clue is in the name…written particularly for the mature reader.

For anyone interested in reading the article google ‘mature times get ready for Wimbledon’

I hope you are enjoying Wimbledon and it is inspiring you to get out there and play…good luck!

The incredible 90 year old athlete

I have a great friend, a physio out in Vancouver, who told me about an incredible 90 year old athlete. She lives in Vancouver as well and she has so astounded scientists with her physical health and fitness that they have been studying her to find out why her body hasn’t appeared to age at the rate expected. She regularly performs in veteran heptathlons and has many world records to her name.

Her name is Olga Kotelko if you want to look her up. She only  took up training for athletics in her 70s and is such an inspiration to all of us who come up with excuses not to exercise! If you want your body to stay younger and fitter then she could be the one to start you exercising. I hope you enjoy reading about her, I certainly did!

Fitness device

Paddy Jones didn’t win BGT but didn’t she perform well…not sure I am that flexible but what a great advert for staying younger than your years! I am sure many of you have been watching the tennis and with more coming up over the next few weeks, what a great time to be inspired to do some exercise…even while you’re watching the tennis on the TV…entertainment and fitness all in one go…excellent! And talking of exercise…I have been finding out about ‘Fitbits’ that are devices that track your activity during the day. Sounds a bit ‘Big Brother-ish’  but it is a really clever gadget. You wear it all day and then download the information. It can tell you all about your activity levels, calories burnt etc. For those who like technology and/or gadgets it’s a great bit of kit. To find out more just google ‘Fitbits’. It may inspire you to get even fitter than you are!!?? So, please take advantage of the good weather and get out there and keep fit, play tennis and enjoy yourselves! :0)

Welcome!

Welcome to our website…it is really exciting now that the tennis book is ready for launch on Thursday with people asking me all the time when they can get it and I’m half way through writing the ‘Play Golf Forever’ book. Mind you, that does mean I seem to spend a lot of my time in front of a computer which goes against the grain for a physio, but so long as it helps get the message out there then it will be worth it.

Speaking of messages…mine being ‘stay healthy to play and play to stay healthy’… last night I came across a brilliant example of how to stay fit and flexible at any age. Did you happen to see Britain’s Got Talent? Not a show I have watched in previous years but this year my daughter talked me into it. Well, last night I saw Paddy Jones, a 79 year old dancer, dancing like a 20 year old. She was so flexible and obviously quite fit that she certainly showed how you can keep your body younger with the right kind of exercise. There was no sign of arthritis limiting the movement in her joints…fantastic! So, I hope she has inspired all who saw her to start to look after their bodies with simple stretching and exercise.

Just remember, if she can do it then so can you, whatever your sport, whatever your age you can be younger too! Good luck and try to fit those exercises in whenever you can.

PS Paddy made it through to the final of Britain’s Got Talent so you can watch her next weekend and marvel at her fitness!
